FISHING REPORT

Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge

We have had several reports of upper slot redfish biting on live pinfish at the culverts on high tide. Mangrove snapper, ladyfish, and jack crevalle continue to bite as well. Two small tarpon were also reportedly jumped at the culverts near the end of the wildlife drive. A 32” snook was caught on topwater as well. The Refuge will be open until May 20, 2013. Repaving will commence after then so the Refuge will be closed for the Summer months.

Causeway Islands

Anglers fishing the Causeway Islands had a great week as the wind and rain made a lot of areas unfishable. Anglers hiding under the span bridges report sheepshead to 18”, mangrove snapper to 14”, spanish mackerel to 23”, and a few midsize tarpon hooked on white bucktail jigs dragged along the bottom. Drift a live shrimp under a popping cork near the bridges or cast small plugs along the riprap that the bridge pilings create...
